The start of the New Year is a great time to try and rid your system of all of the sugar, alcohol, and fat that you’ve inevitably consumed over the past few weeks. Although some doctors and scientists argue that the body’s own processes are good enough to cleanse toxins from your system, people who use detox programs continue to tout the benefits and positive feelings associated with this practice.
Keep in mind that detoxing is not supposed to be a weightloss program, but instead can be considered a good way to start a healthier lifestyle. Many people do find that they lose weight during a detox but, since detox programs last anywhere from a day or two to over a week, they are simple, brief practices to help people cleanse their systems and feel better.
With this in mind you might want to consider taking a few days after the holidays and using one of these programs to help your body release any compounds and chemicals that it has stored over the last few weeks.
- Master Cleanse, one of the most popular detox programs, takes approximately 10 days and consists of drinking a lemony substance that is designed to help your body release toxins it has stored in fat cells. This is also called the Lemonade Diet and beyond helping ordinary individuals to feel better, has helped different celebrities jump start diet programs.
- The “Green Tea” Diet is another type of detox program. The benefits of green tea have been known for centuries and this particular program floods the system with antioxidants and is designed to boost the body’s own detoxification while promoting better health. This particular detox program involves drinking nothing but green tea and water over a period of 24 hours. You can also use green tea as a weight loss supplement in addition to healthy eating.
- Colon Cleansing is another way to help rid your body of toxins in the digestive tract. People who do this often tout clearer skin, better health and improved energy balance. Again, cleaning your colon is designed to be part of a healthier lifestyle that involves good eating and exercising habits.
Once you begin to feel better you’re more likely to begin that ambitious weight loss and exercise program you’ve been planning.
