For many centuries, it has been the dream of many kings, conquerors, and presidents, that Europe should be united. Their dream was not in vain, however, and it is being fulfilled right before our eyes. The creation of the European Common Market and the common euro has helped to bring it all together. A similar dream is being fulfilled in this country - the United States of America.

The North American Union - Its Creation - Part I

For many centuries, it has been the dream of many kings, conquerors, and presidents, that Europe should be united. Their dream was not in vain, however, and it is being fulfilled right before our eyes. The creation of the European Common Market and the common euro has helped to bring it all together. A similar dream is being fulfilled in this country - the United States of America.

It is not a new dream, though, and there have been efforts to make the U.S. and Mexico into one nation before. The same is true with Canada. It looks, though, like it may actually be happening. The North American Union (NAU) has been slowly being created so that it would not cause much of a stir. Many Americans, in fact, have still never heard of it. Yet, if you did a search on Google about it, you would find many references to it -
both from private sources and from the government itself.

A few years ago, plans (NAFTA) were made for trade levels to become increased between Mexico, the U.S., and Canada. This was intended to open doors between the countries so that trade could more easily occur. However, these plans were not developing rapidly enough - probably were never intended to. To see what could be done about getting back to open doors, the Presidents of all three countries met in Waco, Texas (in 2005) for a summit.

It was at this meeting that further plans were discussed and made to soon create a North American Union. Their stated goal was to approve and promote The Security and
Prosperity Partnership of North America, otherwise known as SPP. This group is working toward 5 main objectives. Reasons given that would justify working toward such a new Union include:

  • Increase competitiveness of North America with the rest of the business world.
  • Provide cooperation among North American countries to be able to handle pandemics and avian flu.
  • Continue to ensure North American energy sources.
  • Prepare for emergency disaster management on this continent.
  • Secure North American borders against terrorist attacks.

Since that date, many initiatives have begun to prepare the three nations to fulfill these 5 roles. While Canada may be working toward one goal of the SPP, the United States may be working with them to accomplish it. Mexico may be working on other related goals with the U.S., and all three may be working on other ones, too.

The SPP’s goals, however, is not the final goal. This is only an intermediary step. Interestingly, this agreement is being carried out apart from congressional approval or input. It is between the Presidents of each of the three respective countries and the SPP. In each country, groups similar to this agency have been created and none of them report to their respective Congresses.

The plans call for a North American Union. The SPP is only a path to that end goal. The soon coming Amero is another path to help it along. Even then, however, even the North American Union is only a path to the next step - the uniting of all of the Americas. The date that is being set for the North American Union is 2010 – just a little more than two years away.
